The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the P49-million slope protection structure to stabilize landslide-prone areas along San Fernando-Bagulin Road in Barangay Bacsil, San Fernando City, La Union.
DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said the project utilizes eco-friendly high-tensile wire mesh that keeps rock masses in place and maintains the stability of the slopes without harming the environment.
“With the completion of this eco-friendly mitigation structure, motorists and residents can now safely pass through the mountainous portion of San Fernando-Bagulin Road without worrying about accidents,” said Tan.
The fund for the construction of slope protection was allocated under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) that covers the installation of erosion mats anchored with ground anchor nails along the landslide-prone section of the road.
Meanwhile, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said the department has recently improved a total of six kilometers of road along various sections of two major thoroughfares in the Province of Nueva Ecija.
The Sta. Rosa-Tarlac Road and Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road conducted asphalt overlay activities on 1.85-lane-kilometers and 2.2-lane-kilometers of the Sta. Rosa-Tarlac Road covering in the towns of Zaragoza and Sta. Rosa, respectively.
Another 1.94 lane-kilometers of the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road section in Cabanatuan City has also been upgraded by DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd DEO.
With better carriageways, residents and motorists find more convenient and safer travel while traversing the road sections.
